Show About Shows Is Good Industry Barometer
Within one month of last year’s EXHIBITOR show, more than 56 percent of its exhibitors had already signed up for 2013, reserving more than 62 percent of the space available in this year’s already expanded floor plan.
Carol Fojtik, show director, said at the time, “This is a clear sign that the industry is continuing the positive turnaround that was first evident at EXHIBITOR2011.” The world conference and exhibition for trade show and corporate event marketers is set for March 17-21 in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Attendance at EXHIBITOR2012 also boded well for EXHIBITOR2013. For the third year in a row, overall attendance had increased, reaching a total of 5,280 attendees in 2012, according to an audited survey of attendance prepared by Exhibit Surveys, Inc.
Survey: Exhibitors Hopeful Despite Lingering Recession
Exhibitor Media Group, a leader in trade show and corporate event marketing education, announced the results of EXHIBITOR magazine’s 2013 Economic Outlook Survey, which indicate exhibitors remain hopeful this year will produce better returns than 2012.
“The Great Recession may be over, but it’s still impacting our lives and our industry,” said Travis Stanton, editor of EXHIBITOR magazine. “It’s worth noting that when asked how exhibitors feel about the effectiveness of trade shows as a marketing medium, 83 percent reported being optimistic or at the very least hopeful.”
The comprehensive results will be published in the March issue of EXHIBITOR magazine.
MPEA To Develop 1,200-Room Hotel Near McCormick
Development of a 1,200-room “headquarters hotel” adjacent to McCormick Place was announced by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), in collaboration with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn.
The new hotel will provide the facilities and amenities required to serve as the headquarters for groups holding shows at McCormick Place and play a major role in revitalization of the neighborhood surrounding the convention center. The hotel will facilitate a vibrant and walkable urban experience.
The city’s major competitors, Las Vegas and Orlando, already have headquarters hotels adjacent to their convention centers.
Sign Expo 2013 Sells Out (In The Good Way!)
For the first time ever, ISA International Sign Expo 2013’s exhibit space has topped 200,000 square feet. It also marks the first time in the event’s history that it has been a complete sell-out; a waiting list has been established for companies that want to exhibit. The previous record holder was the 2008 Expo in Orlando with 199,900 square feet.
ISA International Expo 2013 is April 3-6 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas.
